Chris Chalk
Chief Strategy Officer, Saatchi & Saatchi EMEA and Chairman, Saatchi & Saatchi UK

Chris_ChalkChris has worked in advertising for longer than he cares to remember. Having completed a Masters degree in Psychology, the advertising business seemed to offer a chance to feed his growing curiosity into how the creative mind works.

Chris trained in London at two of the most famous agencies of their generation – GGT where he was the planner on Nurofen and Holsten Pils; and Lowe Howard-Spink where he became Deputy Planning Director working on Smirnoff, Baileys, Malibu and Diesel.

At this point the California sun called and Chris moved to LA to become a Partner and Head of Account Planning at TBWA/Chiat Day. He got to work with Levis, Apple and Nissan before being persuaded to move up the coast to San Francisco to take up the same role at Goodby, Silverstein and Partners. The sunburn improved, and Chris worked with Hewlett Packard, Saturn, e-Bay among others.

In 2004, after almost a decade in the US, Chris moved his family back to London in the hope his would stop using the word ‘dude’. He then spent time working with Nokia before joining Saatchi & Saatchi in 2006. At Saatchi he has found a shared belief in the importance of emotion in building relationships and communication.

Along the way Chris has worked with some amazing creative talent, been involved in award winning work, judged and won Effies, and lectured at both VCU Brand School and Miami Ad School.

Chris says workings of the creative mind still remain a mystery, and his kids have stopped using the word ‘dude’, the word ‘awesome’ is proving harder to shift.
